Bio

Jimmy Margulies is an award winning nationally syndicated editorial cartoonist distributed by King Features.

He began his career working for Journal Newspapers in the Maryland and Virginia suburbs of Washington, DC. From 1984-1990, he was the Editorial Cartoonist for The Houston Post. In 1990, he joined The Record in Northern New Jersey as Editorial Cartoonist, serving until 2013.  After that he was the Editorial Cartoonist for amNEW YORK, a New York City tabloid published by Newsday, as well as a regular contributor of cartoons to Newsday. In 2019 he began drawing exclusively for King Features.

He has also been self syndicating New Jersey cartoons to newspapers  around the state for the past 30 years.

Among his national awards are The Berryman Award from The National Press Foundation, The National Headliner Award, The Fischetti Editorial Cartoon Competition, and four Clarion Awards from The Association for Women in Communications.

The New York Times, Washington Post, USA Today, Los Angeles Times, Time, Newsweek and Businessweek are among the many places his cartoons have appeared. He has been featured on CNN, ABC Nightline, PBS, and C-Span.

He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from Carnegie Mellon University, and is proud to be on the National Rifle Association blacklist.

Margulies is also an accomplished caricaturist, with over thirty years experience drawing for parties, retirement gifts, private commissions, etc. He had also done illustration for many commercial and editorial clients and is a popular public speaker.

An avid runner and vintage watch collector, he and his wife Martha have two adult children.

Speech Description

I discuss my job as an editorial cartoonist, show cartoons on a screen. I can also do a few caricatures of audience members or group officers or VIP’s

Setup Needs

A projector which I can plug a laptop computer into, a screen to project the cartoons or blank white wall.

For caricatures, an easel and a large pad of paper.

A microphone.

Terms

I prefer to be paid, but  might consider waiving the fee if it is a group that I feel is deserving. For a school, library or other non-profit, I will be glad to accept the best fee your budget allows, even if it is a modest amount.
