Profile

Bio

Marcela Brané is the current co-President of The Herb Block Foundation.

Herblock was among the world’s best known and most admired political cartoonists during his lifetime. From his drawing table at The Washington Post, he spent his 72-year career fighting against abuses of the powerful.

After his death in 2001, his estate was used to establish a Foundation committed to defending the basic freedoms guaranteed all Americans, combating all forms of discrimination and prejudice and improving the conditions of the poor and underprivileged through the creation or support of charitable and educational programs with the same goals.

The Foundation is also committed to providing educational opportunity to deserving students through post-secondary education scholarships and to promoting editorial cartooning through continued research and the annual Herblock Prize, now the premier award for Editorial Cartooning.

OUR MISSION

The mission of the AAEC is to champion and defend editorial cartooning and free speech as essential to liberty in the United States and throughout the world.

The AAEC aims to be an international leader in support of the human, civil, and artistic rights of editorial cartoonists around the world, and to stand with other international groups in support of the profession.
