When Tom Toles retired in November 2020, the Washington Post promised they would fill the position — and now they have. Sort of.
Today the Post announced that Michael de Adder would be joining the paper as a contributor, providing three cartoons a week. The gig is a contract position — similar to what the publication has with Ann Telnaes — and not a full-time job. de Adder will still be providing cartoons to Counterpoint and his many freelance clients.
“As our readers have been seeing over the past few months, de Adder has a unique style of drawing and an uncanny, impactful ability to combine humor and political passion,” said Fred Hiatt, editorial page editor of The Washington Post. “We are excited to expand our roster and include his perspective in the political discourse.”
So congrats to Michael, and to the Post for taking that first step to hiring a staff cartoonist.
