September 17-20, 2026

The AAEC is returning to Sacramento, Calif. for its 2026 convention. Details coming soon!

The AAEC at CXC!

Today marks the kickoff of Cartoon Crossroads Columbus, the annual FREE cartoon festival in Columbus, Ohio. CXC runs Sept. 26 through Sunday, Sept. 29 at both the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum, and other sites around town.

This year marks the first year CXC will be hosting the winner of the John Locher Memorial Fellowship. AAEC Vice-President Kevin Necessary will be there with this year’s first Locher Fellowship recipient Alexandra Bowman, where they will be giving a Talk & Teach in the Eisner Room on Sept. 27 at 1pm. Alex will also be tabling at the CXC Expo on Saturday and Sunday at the Columbus Metropolitan Library. As always with Cartoon Crossroads Columbus, all events are free!

CSotD: It’s Monday Morning Quarterback Time

There seems to be an epidemic of “I Told You So, Maine” erupting across the nation, or at least erupting across the editorial cartooning world....

LOCHER FELLOWSHIP

The AAEC John Locher Memorial Fellowship is awarded each year to one early-career cartoonist whose work demonstrates clear opinions and strong artistry on political and social topics. Deadline to be considered is the end of March.

The Locher Fellow will receive a one-year Regular membership in the AAEC, be a guest of the CXC Festival — held every fall in Columbus, Ohio —  and have the opportunity to meet with editorial cartoonists during the year of the Fellowship for portfolio reviews and career advice.
