Ramirez Bags ‘Best Cartoon’ at Overseas Press Club

Congratulations to Michael Ramirez on being named this year’s winner of the OPCA’s “Best Cartoon Award” (aka the Award formerly known as the Thomas Nast).

This is the first time the Overseas Press Club of America has picked Ramirez for his cartoons on international events. The conservative cartoonist, who draws for the Las Vegas Review-Journal, is also a two-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize, and a former president of the AAEC.

The @opcofamerica has presented an annual award for editorial cartooning almost continuously since 1968, first as the “Best Cartoon on Foreign Affairs,” and later as “The Thomas Nast Award.” The prize will be presented at a dinner in New York on April 21. LOCHER FELLOWSHIP

The AAEC John Locher Memorial Fellowship is awarded each year to one early-career cartoonist whose work demonstrates clear opinions and strong artistry on political and social topics. Deadline to be considered is the end of March.

The Locher Fellow will receive a one-year Regular membership in the AAEC, be a guest of the CXC Festival — held every fall in Columbus, Ohio —  and have the opportunity to meet with editorial cartoonists during the year of the Fellowship for portfolio reviews and career advice.
