Bio

With a style once described as “gritty, honed to a sharp edge,” Steve Stegelin has been a perma-freelancer with Charleston, SC’s altweekly Charleston City Paper for almost two decades. During his run, he has skewered politics and society ranging from Charleston and the South Carolina Statehouse, to Washington DC and the globe. His focus on Charleston news earned him AAEC’s Rex Babin Award for Excellence in Local Cartooning in 2022, and his work has been routinely recognized by the South Carolina Press Association (SCPA) and the Association of Alternative Newsmedia (AAN). When not providing satirical commentary by way of his eponymous “Stegelin!” editorial cartoons, Steve dabbles in longer-form indie comics that often also tackle societal issues with his trademark snark.
