Ron Hauge was a magazine artist and writer in the 1980s before becoming a tv writer and producer for 25+ years. His early illustrations and cartoons appeared in Time, The New York Times, The National Lampoon, Harper’s, etc. In television, Ron wrote for The Simpsons, Seinfeld and The Ren & Stimpy Show among others. He earned five Emmys and two Peabody Awards at The Simpsons, where he also supervised the design work on the series for twelve years. After retiring from television Ron returned to editorial cartooning for the love of it, and he now contributes to The Nation’s OppArt page, the Daily New Yorker and The American Bystander as a freelancer. He published a book of his 2020 cartoons at the end of that year and his work can be seen @ron_hauge on Instagram.

The AAEC John Locher Memorial Fellowship is awarded each year to one early-career cartoonist whose work demonstrates clear opinions and strong artistry on political and social topics. Deadline to be considered is the end of March.
The Locher Fellow will receive a one-year Regular membership in the AAEC, be a guest of the CXC Festival — held every fall in Columbus, Ohio — and have the opportunity to meet with editorial cartoonists during the year of the Fellowship for portfolio reviews and career advice.
Every two weeks throughout the year, The Learning Forum and the AAEC offers CARTOONS FOR THE CLASSROOM, a free lesson resource for teachers discussing current events. Visit NIEonline.com for more lesson plans.
