Bio
Matt Davies is the staff cartoonist for Newsday in New York. He was the recipient of the 2004 Pulitzer Prize for editorial cartoons and has been a Pulitzer finalist in 2011, 2016 and 2023. He has twice been awarded the Herblock Prize – once in 2004 when the prize was inaugurated and again in 2019. He also received the 2017 and 2021 Headliners award, 2022 Sigma Delta Chi award and the 2001 Robert F. Kennedy Award for a collection of cartoons highlighting police brutality, racism and school overcrowding.
Born in London, England in 1966, Davies moved to the U.S. in 1983. After studying Illustration and fine art at The Savannah College of Art & Design (GA) and The School of Visual Arts in New York City, he began drawing editorial cartoons full-time for The Journal News in Westchester County (NY) in 1993 until 2010. He also drew for the CT Hearst Newspapers from 2008 until 2014, when he joined Newsday.
Syndicated since 1994, his cartoons are distributed worldwide by Andrews McMeel syndicate.
He is also a children’s book author and illustrator.
