Tim Campbell Bio I was born in 1958 and raised in Indianapolis, IN. My wife and I (and 3 dogs) currently live in Carmel, IN. I have been married to my wife Barb since 1989. We have 2 children. Our son Doug (30) lives and works in Houston, TX. Our daughter Tori (27) lives and works in San Francisco, CA. I’ve been a Designer and Illustrator since I graduated from The Columbus College of Art & Design in 1980, but my career as an Editorial Cartoonist began at age 48 in October of 2006. A weekly publication arrived in my mailbox called Current In Carmel. I noticed that the first edition contained an Editorial Cartoon on a local issue as well as an invitation from the publishers for people to contribute and make submissions to the paper. That evening I sketched out a rough pencil idea for a cartoon and emailed it to the paper. Within minutes I was contacted and invited to contribute each week. I’ve never looked back. I began studying the history and current state of Editorial Cartooning and discovered the work being done by so many other cartoonists that I now call friends and colleagues. I joined the AAEC, attended conventions and got better. Within a few years I started entering contests and winning statewide Journalism awards. Over time that one weekly newspaper grew into 6 and I began finding more work for other papers as well. In 2017 I had the good fortune to become nationally syndicated with the Washington Post News Service & Syndicate. This past summer I became syndicated with CounterPoint Licensing & Syndication and switched from Current Publishing to The Hamilton County Reporter as my local paper. I have won over 24 awards for my Editorial Cartoons in my home state of Indiana. This past year I was a finalist for the 22nd International Press Freedom Canada International Editorial Cartoon Competition and I have twice been awarded runner-up for the Clifford K. & James T. Berryman Award by the National Press Foundation. (2018, 2021)

As I’m writing this, the House is in an all-night session, not so much debating Trump’s major bill as seeing which side can hold on...
The AAEC John Locher Memorial Fellowship is awarded each year to one early-career cartoonist whose work demonstrates clear opinions and strong artistry on political and social topics. Deadline to be considered is the end of March.
The Locher Fellow will receive a one-year Regular membership in the AAEC, be a guest of the CXC Festival — held every fall in Columbus, Ohio — and have the opportunity to meet with editorial cartoonists during the year of the Fellowship for portfolio reviews and career advice.
Every two weeks throughout the year, The Learning Forum and the AAEC offers CARTOONS FOR THE CLASSROOM, a free lesson resource for teachers discussing current events. Visit NIEonline.com for more lesson plans.
