Bio

Alexandra Bowman is a freelance illustrator, political cartoonist, satirist, and fine artist from Washington, D.C. She serves as the Editorial Political Cartoonist for the John Kerry-founded environmental organization World War Zero and its subsidiary, Our Daily Planet. Alex is an AB/MA student at Georgetown University and is expecting to earn a BA in English and Art from Georgetown University in May 2022 and master’s in English in May 2023. Alex is hoping to work in film and television, particularly in the field of satire.

Alex has had work published by BBC News, BBC Books, Puffin Books, the Georgetown University Institute of Politics and Public Service, the National Wildlife Federation, and Penguin Random House UK. Alex formerly served as the political cartoonist for the political action committee, The Lincoln Project, with one of her illustrations serving as LP’s Twitter cover photo for several months.

Alex is a member of the National Cartoonists Society, and the Cartoonists Club of Great Britain, the Graphic Artists Guild, the DC Chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts, and is the youngest current member of the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists.

Alex is also the creator of The Hilltop Show, Georgetown University’s political comedy show, which seeks to help a wide audience become more informed about and engaged with current events through entertainment, and to encourage civility in discourse.

Alex also served as the Satire Correspondent on The Economist’s Kevin “Kal” Kallaugher’s webseries, “Satire Can Save Us All” in Summer 2020.

More information about Alex’s work can be found on her website, alexandrabowmanart.com. Alex regularly posts her work and updates on Instagram at @alexandrabowmanart.

LOCHER FELLOWSHIP

The AAEC John Locher Memorial Fellowship is awarded each year to one early-career cartoonist whose work demonstrates clear opinions and strong artistry on political and social topics. Deadline to be considered is the end of March.

The Locher Fellow will receive a one-year Regular membership in the AAEC, be a guest of the CXC Festival — held every fall in Columbus, Ohio —  and have the opportunity to meet with editorial cartoonists during the year of the Fellowship for portfolio reviews and career advice.
