Lalo Alcaraz wins 2025 Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Cartoon Award

Belated congratulations to Lalo Alcaraz, who was named the winner of the 2025 Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Cartoon Award.

Alcaraz, who was a Pulitzer finalist in 2019 and 2020 and the winner of the the 2022 Herblock Prize, was honored with the award May 22 during the 2025 RFK Book and Journalism Awards virtual ceremony.

Alcaraz “brings sharp insights into the inequities that immigrants, women, and minorities face” with his cartoons, stated Margaret Engel, the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Journalism committee chair.

LOCHER FELLOWSHIP

The AAEC John Locher Memorial Fellowship is awarded each year to one early-career cartoonist whose work demonstrates clear opinions and strong artistry on political and social topics. Deadline to be considered is the end of March.

The Locher Fellow will receive a one-year Regular membership in the AAEC, be a guest of the CXC Festival — held every fall in Columbus, Ohio —  and have the opportunity to meet with editorial cartoonists during the year of the Fellowship for portfolio reviews and career advice.
