Hey all — happy new year?
Just a quick reminder: as mentioned in Jen Sorensen‘s recent President’s letter, we will not be publishing an end of year edition of the AAEC Notebook in 2021. It is notable in that — while we have occasionally blown past its deadline, sometimes waaaay past — this is the first time since 1959 there hasn’t been a print edition of the storied newsletter/magazine. The reasons are many, but they’re all good. (And speaking personally, does anyone really want to remember this year? I certainly don’t — these days I’m feeling somewhat nostalgic for the ‘simple insanity’ of 2020.) Look for a return to publication in the future.
In the meantime, check out the excellent year end coverage over on The Daily Cartoonist. DD Degg and company are compiling a list of just about every “Best of 2021” collection editorial cartoonists are putting online. I also recommend Michael Peterson‘s recent column on the history of the Old Man/ New Year’s baby gag in cartoons. It is a deep deep dive in time: https://www.dailycartoonist.com/index.php/2021/12/30/csotd-trading-new-years-for-old/#comment-498268
