Dan Perkins aka Tom Tomorrow wins 2024 Berryman Award

A huge Congrats to Dan Perkins on winning this year’s Clifford K. and James T. Berryman Award for Editorial Cartoons from the National Press Foundation.

Perkins, better known by his nom de plume Tom Tomorrow, is a long-time stalwart of the alt-weekly scene. His cartoon “This Modern World” runs on the Daily Kos and still appears in a few of the surviving alternative weekly papers.

“Tom Tomorrow’s sharp and iconic work embodies the higher purpose of political cartooning: holding powerful figures to account using satire grounded in good journalism,” the NPF judges said.

Perkins will accept the award at the National Press Foundation Annual Awards Dinner on Thursday, February 20, 2025.

The Berryman Award, established in 1989, is given annually in memory of a father and son who were both Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonists and represent the highest standards of illustration and journalism.

Previous Berryman winners include fellow altie Jen Sorensen, Ward Sutton of Boston Globe, Ruben Bolling of the Tom the Dancing Bug weekly strip, Steve Sack of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, RJ Matson of CQ Roll Call and syndicated illustrator Nancy Ohanian.
