According to its bylaws, the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists represents political cartoonists from the U.S., Canada and Mexico. Over the years, though, we have had a few members from Cuba and Central America who worked for North American publications and syndicates.
One such is Nicaraguan cartoonist Pedro X. Molina.
A few weeks ago, as Trump's Immigration Crisis became the big story, he began to reach out to his American counterparts in a series of letters. He wanted them to know just what people in his country were fleeing from, and questions he had about the Trump Administration's policies. We're now sharing those letters with the public. —JP Trostle

To all my dear US colleagues and friends:
As many of you probably already know, my country is going through a very difficult situation right now. Nicaraguan people has been protesting against the regime of Daniel Ortega and his wife (and vice president) Rosario Murillo for a month and a half. At this point we have already more than 120 deaths caused by police and paramilitary forces of the government according to the latest count of the Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) of the OAS and it is obvious that after 11 years in power the ruling couple will not leave by their own will.
Yesterday in the General Assembly of the OAS an energetic condemnation was expected about the massacre of nicaraguans by the government of Ortega. Surprisingly it was learned that the Ortega administration and the Trump administration made some sort of pact to get out a much softer statement than the one that was heavily anticipated.
The question is WHY?…
– Why would Trump do such a favor to a guy like Ortega? …
– Is this another favor from Trump to Putin? …
– Is Trump's diplomacy as incoherent as he is? …
– Is it because he identifies with an egomaniac that clings to power no matter what? …
– Is it in exchange for support from Ortega against Maduro in Venezuela? …
Many questions, few answers… I hope this questions would find a way into your work, after all, Trump is putting your country on the side of a genocide like Daniel Ortega. If you need any extra info about what is happening over here, I am at your disposal. You can contact me at [email protected]
And please keep in mind this: What is happening in Nicaragua is NOT a civil war, there are not two armed groups facing each other, This is a MASSACRE of an ARMED state against DISARMED people.
I ask you PLEASE forward this message to any other colleague and cartoonists organizations that you may know, the more people know what is happening over here, the better.

Hi friends, sadly things in Nicaragua are worsening… today forces of the police working TOGETHER with paramilitary soldiers under orders of Ortega and Murillo reached a new low… They set on fire a house of a family that refused to open his doors to their snipers. They killed almost the entire family: An older couple, their son and wife and TWO BABIES were all killed by the flames. A girl survived when she jumped from the second floor of the house, and she's the one that says the police forces of Ortega did this, same testimony from the real first responders.
Ortega's Gov. tried to lie with a version of a group of firefighters under his control that were saying they were the ones who where there putting the blame in the protesters. But after that, the REAL first responders firefighters squad came up in Tv cameras denying that version. Also there are videos of the police and paramilitary forces in the front of the house.
I will spare you the pictures and videos of the burned children, but if you need more info you can contact me or search for yourself in social media.
Here you have another cartoon, which by the way ran today. Ortega's paramilitary are using the same weapons, look and even the same pick ups (TOYOTA) than ISIS, the only difference is the flag. You can see their convoys in video if you search for it in the internet.
Also, thanks to Daryl Cagle, who gave me the chance to write in his syndicated column about what is happening over here. You can read it here:
Once again, if you can share any of this with people that can help us spread the word about what is happening here, please do it.

Dear colleagues, earlier today a THIRD baby was killed by the paramilitary forces of Daniel Ortega here in Nicaragua. Exactly last Saturday 2 babies where burned alive together with their parents and grandparents when Ortega's paramilitary forces set on fire their house. Today a baby boy who was being carried by his father in his arms was killed with a single shot to his head by Ortega's paramilitary. So I did this piece [a take off the Time magazine cover]. If you could help sharing this image in is cartoon or video form, or send it to someone who could, it would be great. We need all the eyeballs we can get over this horrifying problem in our country.
Thanks in advance.
