Steve Breen of the The San Diego Union-Tribune has been named the
winner of the 2010 John Fischetti Editorial Cartoon Competition. His entry for the Fischetti Award captures the backlash of Iran’s
government trying unsuccessfully to squash Internet communications
documenting public uprisings last year. View image
Breen has been the editorial cartoonist for The San Diego
Union-Tribune since 2001. He is a two-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize, in 1998 and 2009. He
is also the recipient of the 2007 Berryman Award, the 2009 Thomas Nast
Award given by The Overseas Press Club and the 2009 National Headliner
Award from The Press Club of Atlantic City.
The Fischetti Editorial Cartoon Competition is named after John
Fischetti, a Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist, whose work has
graced the pages of many publications, including the Chicago Sun-Times,
Chicago Daily News and the New York Herald Tribune.
