It’s not often that a political cartoonist is honored with their own day. But Pat Bagley, who has drawn cartoon for The Salt Lake Tribune for 45 years, now has a day of his own: May 31, 2025, aka Pat Bagley Day.
Salt Lake City’s mayor, Erin Mendenhall, proclaimed the date as a tribute to Bagley’s decades of cartoons, which “have spared no one — from state legislators to American presidents to politicians around the world.” (The mayor’s proclamation did also state that it was made in part to “possibly avoid being doodled into a future cartoon.”)
Bagley also announced that he will retire as the Tribune’s full-time cartoonist. But Bagley isn’t putting down his pen just yet. He will still contribute cartoons to the Tribune as a freelancer.
