AAEC at the CXC, coming to you this weekend!

The annual CXC Festival arrives this weekend, October 1-4! As with everything else in 2020, the annual cartoonist convention will be virtual, with panels and events streaming live via Zoom and other digital platforms. Everything is free though pre-registration is encouraged for most sessions.*

Here is the complete schedule: https://cartooncrossroadscolumbus.org/schedule

Of specific interest to AAEC members:

1) Tune in Friday Night at 5pm EST for the kickoff reception (BYOB of course), when, among other things, the John Locher Memorial Award will be presented. Then stay for a improv version of Pictionary with Keith Knight and other cartoonists.

2) The Editorial Cartooning panel hits the screen on Saturday afternoon at 2:30pm EST with a live roundtable discussion MC’d by our own KAL and a slate of AAEC members, including Pat Bagley, Jen Sorensen, David G. Brown, Angelo Lopez and Eric Garcia.

*Jenny Robb informs us the Webinar setup they are using requires preregistration for all events, which lets you “sit” in the live audience and participate during the Q&A. However, all the events will be restreaming live on YouTube, Facebook and Discord. The only difference is you can’t post questions on the other platforms. But hey, they’re free and require no signup. See you in cyberspace!

LOCHER FELLOWSHIP

The AAEC John Locher Memorial Fellowship is awarded each year to one early-career cartoonist whose work demonstrates clear opinions and strong artistry on political and social topics. Deadline to be considered is the end of March.

The Locher Fellow will receive a one-year Regular membership in the AAEC, be a guest of the CXC Festival — held every fall in Columbus, Ohio —  and have the opportunity to meet with editorial cartoonists during the year of the Fellowship for portfolio reviews and career advice.
