Last Call for Submissions to Two Election Cartoon Books
Eric Appleman and Pelican Publishing are looking for one more round of submissions for two upcoming books on the long 2008 presidential election campaign.
With the working titles "ROAD TO DENVER: The Race for the 2008 Democratic Nomination" and "ROAD TO MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL: The Race for the 2008 Republican Nomination" both books are scheduled for publication this August.
In a letter to the AAEC, President Nick Anderson wrote, "Mr. Appleman is looking for cartoons about all the major and minor presidential hopefuls, as well as cartoons about the presidential campaign process (for example, the compressed primary schedule, raising money, the debates, key '08 issues). In terms of candidates, these books will include not only the frontrunners, but the lower tier candidates, those who dropped out early, and those who were prominently mentioned as possible candidates, but ultimately decided not to run or have loomed over the field (Bloomberg etc.).
"In the works submitted thus far, [there is] a shortage of works from the earlier stages of the campaign (when candidates were exploring, throwing their hats in the ring, or bowing out) and cartoons on those who did not run (Allen, Bayh, Feingold, Frist, Gingrich, Hagel, Gore, Pataki, Warner, etc.) or lower-tier candidates (Ron Paul, Tom Vilsack, et al). If you have any of those in the back of your drawer or computer and are able to include a few of them in addition to the major candidates as well that would be helpful."
"These books will offer insights and perspective on the 2008 presidential candidates (actual, former and potential) and the campaign process."
THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS IS FRIDAY FEBRUARY 22. Send: BY E-MAIL ONLY to Eric Appleman at action08c(at)gmail.com. Cartoonist may submit as many as cartoons as care to send WITHIN REASON (ie, several dozen is okay, several hundred not so much). Format: 450 dpi TIFF or JPEG, grayscale or, if line art, bitmap. (Please make sure to send in several messages or zip them up in order to avoid clogging up the mailbox.)
Eric M. Appleman has covered presidential campaigns over the last two decades and has produced CD-ROMs and websites documenting presidential campaigns since the 1992 race (see http://www.p2008.org/ for recent work).
[Full Disclosure: These collections are being sponsored by the AAEC, which will receive a share of royalties from both titles.]
