Party Toons Winner Announced
Jimmy Margulies has taken the top prize in the "Party Toons" editorial contest. The winner was announced on Sept. 27 (the birthday of Thomas Nast) by the contest's sponsor, Drew Rougier-Chapman, who is one of the producers of "Party Toons" a half-hour weekly political show built around editorial cartoons and political comedy.
"Mike Keefe took second place with a poignant and very funny cartoon," said Rougier-Chapman. "Justin Bilicki, Sage Stossel and Karl Wimer tied for third place for very clever and ambitious and very different takes on this challenge."
Margulies won $500 for the "cartoon that best expresses why editorial cartoons are so vital to democracy and why the continuing decline in the ranks of editorial cartoonists is so dangerous." His cartoon will also be used to help promote "Party Toons" as its creative team tries to take it from pilot to regular airings on PBS.
