Cartooning Contest Deadlines

National Headliner Awards
Deadline: January 12, 2007

Headliner competition is open to all material appearing in a paid-circulation publication or broadcast in the United States between January 1 and December 31, 2006. There is no limit on the number of entries that may be submitted. Registration fee of $60 per entry.

Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award
Deadline: January 27, 2007

The RFK award is for outstanding coverage of the problems of the disadvantaged. Editorial cartoons will be honored for both domestic & international subject matter, for work published in 2006. $50 entry fee required for each professional entry, limit maximum of 15 cartoons.

The Thomas Nast Award

Scripps Howard Foundation National Journalism Awards

Open to newspaper, syndicate or wire service cartoonists for work published in 2006 in the U.S. or its territories. Submit 6-12 cartoons. Non-animated cartoons published on a journalism media site are acceptable. Individuals only. No team entries. $50 entry fee.

The Herblock Prize
Deadline: February 1, 2007

Open to newspaper, magazine, syndicate or wire service cartoonists for work published in 2006 in the U.S. or its territories. Submit no more than 10 or fewer than 5 copies. No entry fee.
The winner must agree to appear at the Herblock Prize awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. (usually March or April) and give a speech.

The Pulitzer Prize

Sigma Delta Chi Award

The award from the Society of Professional Journalists recognizes an editorial cartoonist published in a newspaper, magazine, newsletter or on-line news site during 2006. $60 fee per entry for SPJ members or $100 fee for nonmembers.

The Charles M. Schulz Award

Student must be currently enrolled in same college for the 2006-2007 school year to be considered. Submit 10 to 20 copies of examples. (No originals!) Cartoons may be panels, strips and/or editorial cartoons/illustrations.
No entry fee. Entry must include a written statement (250 words or less) by the cartoonist outlining his or her goals in cartooning.

The John Locher Memorial Award
