Award News
Steve Sack is the winner of this year's Clifford K. & James T. Berryman Award for Editorial Cartoons.
Sack has been editorial cartoonist for the Minneapolis Star Tribune since 1981 and, in recent years, been one of a handful of artists pushing the genre in new visual and technical directions. (View Sack's work here.)
The Berryman is one of the awards given out annually by National Press Foundation.
It was created in 1989 by Florence Berryman, former art critic of The Washington
Star, in memory of her late father and brother, both Pulitzer Prize-winning
cartoonists. The Berryman Award is open to editorial cartoonists of newspapers
and magazines for work that exhibits power to influence public opinion, plus
good drawing and striking effect.
In other award news, The Daily Cartoonist reports that John Branch, editorial cartoonist for the San Antonio Express-News, was awarded a Katie Award for best editorial cartoon by the Press Club of Dallas for outstanding work in journalism, advertising and public relations.
