Locher Award Announced
William C Warren, a student at Wake Forest University, is this year’s winner of the AAEC/John Locher Award. Warren's editorial cartoons appear in the student newspaper, Old Gold & Black.
In announcing the award at the end of last week by Dick & Mary Locher had this to say: "The subject matter of Warren’s four winning cartoons is timely and varied. They range from commentary on our dependance on Middle East oil, to Vice President Cheney’s hunting accident and Hillary Clinton’s run for president in 2008."
Ed Stein, Andy Donato, and Hy Rosen joined the Lochers on the panel of judges.
The runners-up for this year's award are as follows:
2nd place: Nate Robinson of Seattle, Washington. He is a student at the University
of Washington. His cartoons appear in The Daily
3rd place: Sam Ayres of Littleton, Colorado. Sam attends Yale University where
his cartoons appear in the Yale Daily News.
4th place: Dan Abramson attends Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois
where
his cartoons appear in the Daily Northwestern.
Warren will accept his award plaque at the closing banquet during the convention of the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists in Denver on June 10.
