Awards Season Continues

And the prizes just keep coming. This week the following editorial cartoon awards were announced:

Scripps Howard Foundation National Journalism Awards
http://www.scrippsnetworks.com/foundation/news/newsrelease/06mar10.html

First: Michael Ramirez, Los Angeles Times
Finalists: Mike Luckovich, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Kevin Kallaugher, The Baltimore Sun.

[Editorial aside: Ramirez and Kallaugher were both recently forced out of their long-time jobs at the above papers by their owners, The Tribune Company, to save money. Wonder if that'll stop the Trib from crowing about these awards ...?]

National Headliners Award

First Place: Mike Luckovich, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Second Place: Nick Anderson, The Courier-Journal
Third Place: Mike Peters, Dayton Daily News

John Sherffius has received the 2006 Wilbur Award for editorial cartooning on religious issues and themes. http://www.religioncommunicators.org/wilbur/2006newsrelease.html

Bill Whitehead, cartoonist for the Kansas City Buisness Journal, received first place from the Kansas Press Association for best editorial cartoons of 2005 for weekly publications.

Tim Mitchell earned first place in the Southeastern Journalism Conference category of "Best News/Editorial Artist/Illustrator" for 2006. This is a contest for journalism students at universities throughout the Southestern US. http://www.students.emory.edu/sejc/

Congrats all!
