"Attack" Plan Enters Final Phase or, Free Books for Teachers and Schools!

By JP Trostle

Do you know any teachers who use the weekly “Cartoons in the Classroom” from NIE as part of their lesson plan? Do you know teachers who talk about editorial cartoons as part of their art, history, or civics classes?

Just in time for back-to-school,  Newspapers in Education has a special offer for teachers and schools nationwide. John Kovalic has generously donated the remaining copies of “Attack of the Political Cartoonists” (around 2,500 total) to the AAEC and the NIE for distribution to any teacher or school who request copies. The only thing they have to pay for is shipping and handling. If you know someone who might be interested, have them contact Ross Jepson at jepsonr@telusplanet.net, or call (403) 935-7735.

The only condition is that books must be ordered by the box (approximately 19 books per box) or by the crate (2 boxes per crate) to facilitate shipping. This is a limited time offer: WHILE SUPPLIES LAST.Beginning the second week in August, NIE’s Felix Grabowski will be notifying the 36 newspapers and chains participating in the NIE program, along with several online teaching networks about this offer. For anyone who is interested, here are the shipping and handling costs:

1 box/19 books: $15 S&H

2 boxes/38  books: $28 S&H

4 boxes/76 books: $52 S&H

8 boxes/152 books: $100 S&H

(A buy of 8 boxes reflects an almost 17% saving over a single box shipment.)UPS will be used for shipping. These are prices anywhere in the continental U.S., and there will probably be an extra charge for Alaska and Hawaii. This also represents the final phase of the AAEC Book Project, begun back in 2000. As originally envisioned, the book was to be sold to schools and libraries as part of the further education of kids in the importance of political cartoons.
