Harville Takes Katie

The 45th Annual Katie Awards were announced October 25th at the InterContinental Hotel Dallas, with Vic Harville of Stephens Media Group taking first place in the Editorial Cartoon category. It was Vic’s second consecutive Katie given by The Press Club of Dallas. A six-time finalist, Vic also took top honors in 1998. Entries were from Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Colorado, New Mexico and Oklahoma.

Lowe and Hall First in Florida
Chan Lowe, of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, and Ed Hall, The Baker County Press, each took First Place for editorial cartooning in their respective classes in the 2003 Excellence in Journalism contest. The award is given annually by the Florida Press Club.
Lowe took First in Class A, for newspapers over 75,000 circulations, with Second Place going to Bruce Beattie, The Daytona Beach News-Journal, and Third to Doug MacGregor, The News-Press.
Hall took first in the combined B-C-D categories for papers with up to 75,000 circulation. This is the first year the association has combined the categories, making the competition much stiffer. Second Place went to James Casciari, Vero Beach Press Journal, and Third to Jake Fuller, Gainesville Sun.

    U.N. Award Given
Andrzej Krauze, 56, a cartoonist for The Economist and The Guardian, is the winner of the 2002-2003 The United Nations Ranan Lurie Political Cartoon Award.
