AAEC - Cartoonist Profile
David Rees
I started my news career as a cartoonist with the San Fernando Valley News in 1964. The leftists at Berkeley had just thrown out the first dirty speech words. Rebellion and violence followed as we entered the Vietnam War period. That was before the days of political correctness. The newspaper I worked for was locally owned and free to state honest, local opinions. My editor had been a space-ship captain in the Pacific during World War III, so my job was to defend our nation and its heritage, which I was most happy to do.
