AAEC - Cartoonist Profile

Alex Raffi
Since 1998, I have been a professional cartoonist. Currently my work is featured weekly within the Henderson Home News, South Valley News and Boulder City News – all of which are weekly publications with a distribution base of over 34,000 people throughout Southern Nevada (one of the nation’s still rapidly growing yet more diverse demographic regions.)
I have been recognized by the Nevada Press Association (NPA) on a number of occasions with statewide honors for my work. Most recently, my work was received top honor at this year’s NPA awards for “Best Editorial Cartoon – All State Papers.” My illustrations have also been featured in several university level text books.
My work focuses on issues pertinent to Southern Nevada, however, a fair share of them also focus on world issues and popular general news. Local news has also featured my work, which is available for your viewing on my Web site: www.RiffRafficom in blog section UNLV Athletics suspended and UNLV Athletes suspended & Cavagnaro allegations.
Being a cartoonist allows me the opportunity to express and share opinions, illicit immediate responses from people, and, at times, hold up a mirror to readers and force them to face opinions they may not have realized they had before. This level of intimate communication is powerful and gratifying, which is why I look forward to a long career in editorial cartooning.
