Milt Priggee

Milt Priggee was born July 6, 1953 in Anchorage, Alaska. He grew up in the Chicago area where both of his parents were artists. Milt attended Adams State College on an athletic/wrestling scholarship where he graduated in 1976 with a major in fine arts.

After college Priggee met his mentor, John Fischetti, in Chicago. Fischetti helped Priggee start freelancing. His work appeared in The Chicago Daily News, Sun-Times and Tribune.

Beginning in 1978, he was the first regular cartoonist for the weekly Crain's Chicago Business. His first staff editorial cartoonist position was with the Journal-Herald in Dayton, Ohio from 82-'86. Priggee created editorial cartoons for The Spokesman-Review from February 1987 to August of 2000. He was awarded a Journalism Fellowship to the University of Michigan from September 2000 to May 2001. Currently he is freelancing animated and print editorial cartoons from his site www.miltpriggee.com in northwest Washington State.

His work has been reprinted in Time, Newsweek, U.S. News & World report, The New York Times, Washington Post and USA Today. His originals are owned by Mike Royko, Studs Terkel, Bill Veeck and John Kenneth Galbraith.

Priggee has been an award winner in the Associated Press Society of Ohio, Mencken Awards, National Newspaper Association, Editorial Humor Annual Cartoon Contest, Overseas Press Club, the Small Business Foundation of America, Inc., Pacific Northwest Journalists, Inland Northwest SPJ, Western Washington, Utah-Idaho-Spokane AP, the Fischetti Editorial Cartoon contest and The First Iran Internet Cartoon contest.

A past president of The Association of American Editorial Cartoonists (1997), he has been a member since 1981 and is the initiator of the unofficial Golden Spike award.

His political cartoons have been nationally syndicated with Copley, caricatures with Cartonists & Writers Syndicate and the comic strip 'US & Them with Universal Press Syndicate.

Milt is married to Janet, his soul mate, and is the stepfather to Jason 27, Jennifer, 25, and the father of Sarah, 23, and Eric, 21.

Availability: Availability anytime for schools, civic organizations, business groups or anybody who enjoys being visually entertained. Please contact at least two weeks in advance.
Terms: negotiable
Setup Needs: An overhead projector, power source and a screen or blank wall. Table for projector and material. A bunch of folks who have an interest in the freedom of speech.
Other Requirements: For the animated cartoons a cable/high speed Internet access is required.
