Jimmy Margulies
Jimmy Margulies is the editorial cartoonist for The Record , in the northern New Jersey suburbs of New York City. Since 1990, he has been drawing six cartoons a week on state, national and international issues.
His cartoons are syndicated by King Features, and appear in The New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Chicago Sun Times, Dallas Morning News, Newsday, Time, Newsweek and Business Week, as well as many other publications across the nation. He has been featured on ABC News’ Nightline, PBS’ TV411, Jack Anderson’s show on CNBC, Catherine Crier’s program in The Fox News Channel, and his cartoons have been seen on The MacNeil/Lehrer Newshour, CNN, C-Span, and The Fox News Channel.
In addition, Margulies self syndicates his cartoons on state issues to newspapers throughout New Jersey.
In 1996, he won both the National Headliner Award and The Fischetti Editorial Cartoon Competition. He has also placed second in the Berryman Award from the National Press Assocation in 1994, and won third place in the National Headliner Award in both 2003 and 2004.
Prior to joining The Record, Margulies was the editorial cartoonist for The Houston Post. During his stint in Houston, he won the Global Media Award from the Population Institute, which included a two week tour of China. Ultra Magazine named him to its list of Texans Who Made The Eighties.
He began his career working for Journal Newspapers in the Maryland and Virginia suburbs of Washington, DC.
Margulies has two collections of his cartoons published…My Husband is Not a Wimp! in 1988, and Hitting Below the Beltway in 1998.
A 1973 graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, he and his wife Martha have two children, Elana and David. He is an avid runner. The National Rifle Association placed him on their blacklist, which he considers a badge of honor.
