Jay Lamm

Jay Lamm is a local political cartoonist for The Franklin Times in Louisburg, N.C. The twice-weekly community paper won first-place community editorial page in the 2006 N.C. Press Association contest. A Wilson, N.C., native, Lamm started drawing cartoons for his high school newspaper, the Hunt High Oracle. Then, until he was kicked off the staff for being too controversial, he drew for his college newspaper, The Creek Pebbles, at Campbell University, a private Baptist school located in Buies Creek, N.C. After college, he began drawing for The Wilson Daily Times, Wilson, N.C., The Rocky Mount Evening Telegram, Rocky Mount, N.C. and the Kenly News, Kenly, N.C. in the early 80s, also doing illustrations for feature stories. He started his own syndicate for North Carolina political cartoons in the early 90s and was then published in more than 60 newspapers throughout North Carolina, with contracts with independent newspapers as well as chains, including Thompson, Cox and Media General. After a stint in corporate America in marketing and advertising in Raleigh, N.C. and operating and owning four grill restaurants in eastern North Carolina, Lamm settled in on a 25-acre farm outside of Castalia, N.C., where he takes care of a lively crew of Labs and Canaans and mows a lot grass.
