David Kish
Surreal times call for surreal measures, and David Kish's cartoon world, "Hoopleville," certainly delivers that. David was born to a steelworker father and a hairdresser mother in Allentown, Pennsylvania. As a child he took classes at the Baum School of Art, and later graduated from Lehigh University with degrees in Architecture and Economics. He did grad school in Los Angeles, then worked for ten years designing and building a wide range of 2-D and 3-D projects before getting serious about cartooning.
"Hoopleville" blends an unusual graphic style with careful writing and outrageous ideas. Its sense of humor derives from balancing American foibles with a pinch of the humane and a dash of the surreal. The "Hoopleville" cartoon strip has been published by the Boston Phoenix Media Group since 2005.
