Ron Hill

Ron Hill has been publishing editorial cartoons in the award-winning weeklies The Chagrin Valley Times and The Solon Times since 1999. Primarily focusing on local community issues, Ron does occasionally comment on Ohio and national issues, highlighting the local connection (since all politics is local). In 2008, one of his cartoons was recognized as the Best of Ohio for a Non-Daily Newspaper by the Cleveland Press Club. In 2012, he began drawing for the The Geauga Times Courier, and in 2014 he added West LifeThe Press (Avon Lake) and The North Ridgeville Press. This brings his total out-put up to six cartoons a week.

In 2013, Ron and the Chagrin Valley Publishing Company were the target of a libel and slander lawsuit brought by the notoriously-litigious Robert Murray of Murray Energy. Ron's cartoon withstood a resoundingly-clear test as Free Speech. This decision was upheld by two regional appellate courts and the Ohio Supreme Court. This first-hand experience further strengthened Ron's resolve to fight the attempted chilling of free speech that the current American presidency enables among the rich and powerful.

Ron has also illustrated 15 volumes in the Armchair Theologian Series, published by Westminster John Knox Press, which have been been translated into German, Italian, Korean, Japanese and Spanish.

Ron is a 1982 graduate of the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, and learned to draw caricatures from the legendary John Johns. He continues to draw at 60 parties and events each year.

Ron taught Interactive Media, a career-tech/college-prep course, full-time at Alliance High School from 2002–2015 (while maintaining his editorial cartoon commitments). This rewarding experience informed his opinions and commentary regarding public education, particularly in Ohio, and resulted in a collection of cartoons titled Edutoons, published by Act 3.

In 2016, Ron helped create Act 3, a media company located in Cleveland, Ohio, with two other creative colleagues. Act 3 partners with non-profit and profit organizations, providing illustration, design, video and web services.

Ron lives in suburban Cleveland, Ohio, with his wife, Margie. They have three adult children, 2 daughters-in-law, and 2 granddaughters...with a third granddaughter on the way.
