Phil Hands
Phil is a freelance cartoonist, illustrator and writer. He draws cartoons for the Wisconsin State Journal focusing specifically on issues relevant to Madison and Wisconsin. Phil also creates illustrations for the editorial page and the sports page of the Wisconsin State, and has been known, from time to time, to even write a column.
Phil recently began contributing cartoons to the Tampa Tribune. He also provides Madison's alternatively weekly newspaper, the Isthmus, with illustrations and feature length articles on state government and the environment.
Phil received a B.A. in political science and studio art in 2003 from Kenyon College in Ohio and a M.A. in Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2007.
Phil is a pathetically loyal Detroit Tigers fan. Currently, Phil lives in Madison, Wisconsin with his very understanding wife Tricia and a her #%*&ing cat.

A brief description of my humble beginnings in the world of editorial cartooning, followed by a slide show where I explain the inspiration or aggravation of specific cartoons, and how much local politicians hate them.
The presentation features over 50 of Phil's editorial cartoons and illustrations. |
