Al Goodwyn began cartooning in 1989 when he put his physics education and technical work experience into content for an international physics publication, The Health Physics News. Al produced science-themed cartoons over a 28 year span for the publication. He started his editorial cartooning with the Aiken Standard (SC) where he twice won first place from the South Carolina Press Association, most recently in 2018.
His cartoons have appeared in newspapers and magazines including the Washington Post, the Washington Times, the Washington Examiner, The Star (North Augusta, South Carolina), and The Metropolitan Spirit (an alt-weekly newspaper in Augusta, Georgia). In addition to on-line and print content for the Washington Examiner, Al produced several cover illustrations for the magazine. His cartoons currently appear routinely on-line through Salem Media and ArcaMax Publishing, and in print in the Fredericksburg Free Lance-Star (VA), the Daily Press (VA) the Culpeper Star-Exponent and the Aiken Standard.
Al currently self-syndicates his work and produces four cartoons each week.
