|
Ayumi Fukuda
Though Ayumi did not move to the
United States until age ten, she considered herself pro-choice by the time she was in the sixth grade. She soon began watching late night tv comedians, and her love for politics and political humor has existed since. Ayumi began editorial cartooning during her senior year in college, as a favor for a friend who was in desperate need of filling a space in Orbis, an alternative campus publication. That year, she wound up serving as art director, editorial cartoonist and a regular columnist for the publication. She also served as the regular editorial cartoonist for the Vanderbilt Hustler, the campus paper, and occasionally designed its sports pages.
She is the 2004 first place winner of the Gold Circle Awards, given by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, and was chosen as “Best in the South” in editorial cartooning by the Southeastern Journalism Conference.
Ayumi is a 2003 graduate of
Vanderbilt
University in
Nashville, Tennessee , with majors in sociology and music. Additional studies at the Watkins College of Art & Design.
