F. James Corwin

              

      F. James Corwin, born in Newton, MA, 3 wks later brought to Martha's Vineyard Island, where she was raised by her namesakes, Frances  and  James  MacInnis.  After graduating Tisbury High School, she attended the Boston Museum of Fine & Applied Arts, majoring in Sculpture.  Corwin also studied Portraiture with Joan Trimble-Smith at Framingham Civic Art League, Regis College and privately at the Trimble-Smith Studio in Wayland, MA.

     After marrying Albert C. Corwin, they had children, Jill, Alec and Jim, and in 1971, Corwin started sketching portraits in public at the Boston Flea Market, as a way to pay for her space.  Over the years, she's sketched in many juried art shows, state fairs, malls and has received numerous awards for her art work and photographs, mainly in the Boston area.

     In 1992, Corwin started drawing editorial cartoons for "The Valley Comic News" in the Northampton, MA area, starting with the panels titled, "The Right Side", "The Washington Fat Cats" and "The Washington Watchdogs".

     After moving to Venice, FL in Dec. 1994, in March 1995, Corwin started drawing editorial cartoons for the neighboring town of Englewood, FL, in the Wednesday edition of the Englewood Sun Herald,  and has developed a series of local cartoons such as:  "Engle-Bird's eye View", "Loggerhead  Lingo", "Corwin's Critters", "Fish Tales of Lemon Bay", "Manny-T Moments" and "Butterfly Byways around the Bay" to name a few.  Corwin's "The Right Side" cartoons have also appeared several times on C-Span's "Washington Journal".

     As a contributor to the recent AAEC book, "The Attack of the Political Cartoonists", Corwin enjoyed meeting the public at various book signings, even sharing one booksigning on Martha's Vineyard with fellow AAEC cartoonist . Anne Ganz.  At the Venice Library Book/Lunch Series,  Corwin gave a lecture with a Q & A session along with a book signing.  Corwin also belongs to the Sarasota members of the American Society of Portrait Artists.
