Richard Bartholomew

“Richard is a super cartoonist — insightful and inciteful. By all rights he should be known far and wide and mentioned with the cartooning greats. There's still time.” — John Young, columnist, former editorial page editor of the Waco Tribune-Herald, and Pulitzer jurist for editorial cartooning

Richard Bartholomew is one of the smartest guys I know. Now I'm scared. — Jack Ohman, editorial cartoonist for The Sacramento Bee

I am Richard Bartholomew, an artist and cartoonist based in Austin, Texas since 1976. My cartoons are distributed by Artizans Syndicate throughout the U.S. and Canada. I began my editorial cartooning career in 1995 for a local newspaper. Within a year, my work was recognized nationally when I was awarded an Outstanding Entry Award in the John Fischetti Editorial Cartoon Competition, sponsored by Columbia College Chicago.

Before being syndicated, I had been widely published by Texas Monthly Press, University of Texas Press, the Austin American-Statesman, the Austin Business Journal, The Texas Observer, The Austin Chronicle, D Magazine, The Quorum Report, the Waco Tribune-Herald, The Washington Post and The Cleveland Plain Dealer, among others. My cartoons have appeared annually since 2005 in Charles Brooks' Best Editorial Cartoons of the Year.

Since 2006, my work has been syndicated by Artizans, and added to the permanent collections of the University of Texas Center for American History, the Newseum in Washington, D.C., and the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum. In 2010, I received the ‘Award of Excellence’ in the 10th annual International Editorial Cartoon Competition, hosted by the Canadian Committee for World Press Freedom. My animation work has appeared in two feature films, The Quest for Camelot (Warner Bros., 1997) and The Prince of Egypt (DreamWorks, 1998).
